Overview

Dr. Josh Sharfstein, Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Dr. Letitia Dzirasa, Commissioner of Health at the Baltimore City Health Department, presented vaccine approaches taken by Baltimore City, and recommendations to mayors based on the lessons they learned. Erica Chenoweth, the Berthold Beitz Professor in Human Rights and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School, and a Susan S. and Kenneth L. Wallach Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, facilitated a discussion on the role of local leaders in rebuilding trust and bridging social capital during an era of partisan polarization and widespread distrust of traditional institutions. Jorrit de Jong, Faculty Director of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative and Senior Lecturer in Public Policy and Management at Harvard Kennedy School, moderated the session.
